How to Perform Self-Ruqyah to Remove Sihr - Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Introduction

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

"There is no disease that Allah has created, except that He also has created its treatment." (Bukhari, 5678)

Sihr (black magic) is real. But Allah's power is infinitely greater.

Self-Ruqyah is the Islamic spiritual healing you can perform on yourself using Quran, authentic duas, and consistent dhikr. It's permissible, encouraged, and when done with sincerity and conviction, incredibly powerful.

This is your complete guide to removing sihr through self-Ruqyah.

Before You Begin: Critical Foundations

1. Purify Your Intention (Niyyah)

You're seeking healing from Allah alone—not from the Quran itself, not from your own power, but from Allah through His words.

2. Have Complete Conviction (Yaqeen)

Allah says:

"And when I am ill, it is He who cures me." (Quran 26:80)

Believe with certainty that Allah will heal you.

3. Understand: Dhikr is Your Weapon

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"The example of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not is like that of the living and the dead." (Bukhari, 6407 & Muslim, 779)

Sihr attacks those with weak dhikr. Your consistent, daily remembrance of Allah is what breaks the magic's power and protects you long-term.

4. Be Patient

Healing may take days, weeks, or months. Don't give up.

"So indeed, with hardship comes ease." (Quran 94:5)

Step-by-Step Self-Ruqyah Method

STEP 1: Prepare Yourself Spiritually

Do this BEFORE starting Ruqyah:

Make sincere Tawbah (repentance) for all sins

✅ Perform wudu (ablution) - be in a state of purity

✅ Pray 2 rak'ahs - connect with Allah first

✅ Make dua - ask Allah sincerely for healing

✅ Increase your daily dhikr - Start saying "SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar" 100x each daily

Why dhikr matters here:

Ibn al-Qayyim said: "Dhikr is the medicine for the heart."

Sihr weakens when your heart is fortified with Allah's remembrance. Make dhikr your daily shield before, during, and after Ruqyah.

STEP 2: Find a Quiet, Clean Space

  • Choose a room free from music, images, or distractions
  • Play Quran in the background (recommended: Surah Al-Baqarah on loop)
  • Have water, honey, or olive oil ready for recitation

STEP 3: Recite Over Yourself

Sit comfortably. Place your hand on your chest or head. Recite clearly and with focus.

A. Opening: Surah Al-Fatihah (7 times)

"In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. [All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds - The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful, Sovereign of the Day of Recompense. It is You we worship and You we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path - The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray." (Quran 1:1-7)

Why 7 times? The Prophet ﷺ used this for healing. (Bukhari, 5736)

B. The Greatest Protection: Ayat al-Kursi (3-7 times)

"Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great." (Quran 2:255)

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi when going to bed, Allah will send a guardian to protect him, and Shaytan will not approach him until morning." (Bukhari, 5010)

After reciting, make this dhikr 33 times: "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah)

This affirms Tawhid—the ultimate destroyer of sihr.

C. The Last Two Verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (3 times)

"The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], 'We make no distinction between any of His messengers.' And they say, 'We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.' Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. 'Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.'" (Quran 2:285-286)

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever recites these two verses at night, they will suffice him." (Bukhari, 5009)

D. Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas (3 times each)

Surah Al-Ikhlas (112): "Say, 'He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.'"

Surah Al-Falaq (113): "Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, From the evil of that which He created, And from the evil of darkness when it settles, And from the evil of the blowers in knots [sorcerers], And from the evil of an envier when he envies.'"

Surah An-Nas (114): "Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, The Sovereign of mankind, The God of mankind, From the evil of the retreating whisperer - Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind - From among the jinn and mankind.'"

Critical: Surah Al-Falaq specifically mentions "the blowers in knots"—this is direct reference to sorcerers.

After each recitation, blow gently into your cupped hands and wipe over your entire body (head to toe, front and back).

E. Anti-Sihr Verses from the Quran

From Surah Yunus (10:81-82): "And when they had thrown, Musa said, 'What you have brought is [only] magic. Indeed, Allah will expose its worthlessness. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of corrupters.' And Allah will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it."

From Surah Ta-Ha (20:69): "And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is."

From Surah Al-A'raf (7:117-122): "And We inspired to Musa, 'Throw your staff,' and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. And they were overcome right there and became debased."

Recite these verses 3-7 times. They specifically nullify magic.

F. Powerful Prophetic Duas

1. The Dua for Healing:

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ، وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا

"Allahumma Rabban-nas, adhhib al-ba's, washfi anta ash-Shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka, shifa'an la yughadiru saqama"

Translation: "O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm and heal. You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind."

(Bukhari, 5743 & Muslim, 2191)

Say this 7 times while placing your hand on the affected area.

2. Dua from Sunnah (for evil eye and sihr):

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

"A'udhu bi-kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq"

Translation: "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created."

(Muslim, 2708)

Say this 3 times in the morning and evening as daily protection.

3. The Comprehensive Protection:

"Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim"

Translation: "In the Name of Allah with Whose Name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever says this three times in the morning and evening will not be harmed by anything." (Abu Dawud, 5088 - Sahih)

STEP 4: Recite Over Water, Oil, and Honey

Prepare:

  • Large bottle of water (for drinking and washing)
  • Small bottle of olive oil (for anointing body)
  • Raw honey (for eating)

Recite all the verses from Step 3 over these items.

Then:

  • Drink from the water throughout the day
  • Wash with the water (pour over head during shower)
  • Apply olive oil to forehead, chest, and any areas of pain
  • Eat a spoonful of honey daily (Quran 16:69 - "In it is healing")

Continue this for 40 days minimum.

STEP 5: Daily Dhikr Routine (NON-NEGOTIABLE)

This is the most critical step. Ruqyah removes sihr temporarily, but constant dhikr prevents it from returning and accelerates your healing.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Dhikr is better than spending gold and silver." (Tirmidhi, 3377)

Your daily dhikr is more powerful than any magic.

Morning Dhikr (After Fajr):

✅ Ayat al-Kursi - 3 times

✅ Last 2 verses of Al-Baqarah - 1 time

✅ Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas - 3 times each (blow in hands, wipe over body)

✅ "Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un..." - 3 times

✅ "A'udhu bi-kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq" - 3 times

✅ 100x "SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil-Azim"

✅ 100x "Astaghfirullah" (seeking forgiveness opens doors of healing)

Evening Dhikr (After Maghrib):

Repeat the same morning dhikr.

Before Sleep:

✅ Ayat al-Kursi - 1 time

✅ Surah Al-Mulk - 1 time (protection in the grave)

✅ Blow in hands, recite Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas (3x), wipe over body

Throughout the Day:

Keep your tongue constantly moist with:

  • "SubhanAllah" (Glory be to Allah)
  • "Alhamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah)
  • "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest)
  • "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah)

Aim for at least 1,000 dhikr daily.

Allah says:

"Remember Me, and I will remember you." (Quran 2:152)

When Allah remembers you, no magic can touch you.

How Often to Perform Self-Ruqyah

Minimum: Once daily for 40 days Recommended: Morning and evening for 40 days If severe: 3 times daily (after Fajr, Asr, and before sleep)

Consistency is key. Don't skip days.

Additional Spiritual Practices

1. Pray Tahajjud (Night Prayer)

Wake up in the last third of the night and pray 2-8 rak'ahs. This is when Allah descends to the lowest heaven and asks:

"Who will call upon Me, that I may answer him? Who will ask of Me, that I may give him? Who will seek My forgiveness, that I may forgive him?" (Bukhari, 1145 & Muslim, 758)

Pour your heart out in sujood. Cry. Ask for healing. Allah is listening.

2. Listen to Surah Al-Baqarah Daily

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Shaytan flees from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited." (Muslim, 780)

Play it in your home, car, or with headphones. Let it fill your space.

Sihr and jinn cannot remain where Al-Baqarah is regularly recited.

3. Increase Sadaqah (Charity)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire." (Tirmidhi, 2616)

Give charity—even small amounts—with the intention of healing.

4. Fast Voluntarily

Fasting weakens the jinn's influence over the body and purifies the soul.

The Prophet ﷺ would fast Mondays and Thursdays.

5. Keep Wudu Constantly

The state of wudu is spiritual protection. Renew it often.

6. Avoid All Major Sins

Sins are openings for sihr and jinn to enter. Protect yourself by:

  • Lowering your gaze
  • Avoiding music
  • Staying away from haram relationships
  • Praying five times daily on time

Lifestyle Changes That Break Sihr

DO:

✅ Pray all five prayers on time (in the mosque for men if possible)

✅ Read Quran daily (especially Surah Al-Baqarah, Ya-Sin, Ar-Rahman)

✅ Maintain consistent dhikr (this is your #1 weapon)

✅ Keep your home clean and free of images/statues

✅ Play Quran in your home regularly

✅ Eat halal, wholesome food (avoid alcohol, pork, doubtful items)

✅ Sleep early, wake for Fajr

✅ Exercise and stay physically healthy

✅ Surround yourself with righteous company

DON'T:

❌ Visit fortune tellers, magicians, or healers who use jinn

❌ Use amulets with unknown symbols or writings

❌ Listen to music (it attracts jinn)

❌ Watch haram content (weakens spiritual immunity)

❌ Delay prayers

❌ Engage in gossip, backbiting, or slander

❌ Despair or lose hope in Allah's mercy

❌ Stop your Ruqyah routine prematurely

Signs Your Ruqyah is Working

✅ Increased peace in your heart

✅ Better sleep (fewer nightmares)

✅ Improved mental clarity

✅ Desire to pray and read Quran increases

✅ Physical symptoms lessen

✅ Relationships improve

✅ Doors start opening in your life

✅ You feel lighter, spiritually and physically

Note: You may experience temporary worsening of symptoms (headaches, nausea, anger) as the sihr is being expelled. This is normal. Keep going.

When to Seek Help from a Legitimate Raqi

If after 40+ days of consistent self-Ruqyah you're not improving, or if symptoms are severe, seek help from a legitimate Islamic healer who:

✅ Uses only Quran and authentic Sunnah

✅ Doesn't charge exorbitant fees

✅ Doesn't claim to see or communicate with jinn

✅ Doesn't give amulets with unknown writings

✅ Is known for piety and good character

✅ Treats men and women separately with mahram present

The Power of Conviction (Yaqeen)

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

"The effectiveness of Ruqyah depends on two matters: the strength of the heart of the one reciting, and the strength of his reliance on Allah."

Believe with certainty:

  • Allah is the Healer
  • His words have power
  • You will be cured
  • No magic is stronger than Allah

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Call upon Allah while being certain of being answered." (Tirmidhi, 3479 - Hasan)

Final Reminder: Dhikr is Your Greatest Protection

We cannot stress this enough: Consistent, daily dhikr is what prevents sihr from affecting you in the first place and what keeps it from returning after healing.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever says 'SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi' 100 times a day, his sins will be forgiven even if they are like the foam of the sea." (Bukhari, 6405)

If Allah forgives your sins through dhikr, He also removes the openings through which sihr enters.

Make dhikr your lifestyle, not just a ritual.

Say it:

  • While driving
  • While cooking
  • While walking
  • While waiting
  • Before sleep
  • Upon waking

Let "SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah" be on your tongue constantly.

This is your armor. This is your medicine. This is your victory.

Conclusion

Sihr is real, but it is weak.

Allah says:

"Indeed, the plan of Shaytan has ever been weak." (Quran 4:76)

Your consistent Ruqyah + daily dhikr + strong Yaqeen = Guaranteed healing.

It may take time. You may face setbacks. But if you persist—if you make dhikr your constant companion—Allah will heal you.

"And when I am ill, it is He who cures me." (Quran 26:80)

Start today:

  1. Purify your intention
  2. Make wudu
  3. Recite the Ruqyah verses
  4. Begin your daily dhikr routine
  5. Trust Allah completely

Your healing is written. Your freedom is near.

Keep going. Allah is with you.
